Income of school cooperatives exceeds RM312 million annually – Bernama

The income of school cooperatives in the country exceeds RM312 million annually, says the Angkatan Koperasi Kebangsaan Malaysia Bhd (Angkasa) president, Datuk Abdul Fattah Abdullah. He said at present, there were 2,386 school cooperatives with a membership of 2.1 million and shares valued at more than RM22 million."We expect the number of school cooperatives to grow in future," he told reporters after visiting the Sekolah Menengah Imtiaz Cooperative in Kuala Terengganu today. Also present was the Angkasa or National Cooperative Organisation of Malaysia's Terengganu chairman, Ahmad Jais Hassan.Fattah said school cooperatives are seen as assisting the government in overcoming the rise in the prices of goods and reducing the cost of living of the people."For this reason, the cooperatives can get involved in other businesses other than just selling school materials."They can expand by also selling products that constitute daily needs. Parents can get the relevant products through their children in the schools along with teachers and other staff," he added. – Bernama, February 8, 2015.
