Houses for flood victims ready before Ramadan, says Kelantan MB – Bernama

Sarawak PKR today registered its strongest objection on what it said was the Election Commission's rush to hold local inquiries on the new electoral boundary proposed in the state's redelineation exercise. The party's state vice-chairman, See Chee How (pic) said there were no written notices in the media and that complainants were only informed by phone."No written notices (in the mass media). They (the EC) just called by phone to ask the complainants to pick up their letters (which stated the date, time and venue of the inquiry) from the EC head office (at Bangunan Sultan Iskandar) in Simpang Tiga," he told reporters at the party’s Chinese New Year open house at its Batu Tiga bazaar headquarters.Citing an example, See said the objector in the seat of Bengoh in the Mambong parliamentary constituency received a call from the EC on Monday.According to the letter, the inquiry will be held next Monday at the Kuching community hall.See said when word got out that the EC had “no time to take out newspaper ads due to the holidays", many objectors started calling up the EC for information.“YB Ali Biju did that," See said, referring to the party’s assemblyman in the predominantly Dayak seat of Krian."Why the rush?" he asked, questioning EC's decision to give only a seven-day notice to inform objectors and not 14 days, as previously practised. The seven days included the two public holidays (Thursday and Friday) and the weekend.See said by asking objectors to “work" through the Chinese New Year holidays to prepare for the inquiry showed that EC has no respect for the celebration. The Batu Lintang assemblyman also questioned EC's decision to go ahead with the inquiry despite the Kuching High Court still waiting to hear the party’s application for a judicial review on the redelineation exercise."Can’t they wait for the court decision on the judicial review? It could probably save time and money."Last Tuesday, the High Court granted PKR its leave application to challenge the EC’s redrawing of the electoral boundary in the state. The court had set March 19 for further mention and to set a date to hear the review filed by See and a voter in Ulu Baram named Pauls Baya.See and Baya, in their affidavit, among others, claimed the publication, or notification, of the EC to review the delineation was not in compliance with the provisions of the 13th Schedule of the Federal Constitution, and that the EC did not have the power to make changes to parliamentary constituencies in the delineation exercise. Both men are seeking court orders to declare the exercise "null and void and of no effect".In the meantime, See said polls reforms coalition Bersih is seeking an appointment to meet EC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof in Kuala Lumpur next week, to get him to put on hold the inquiry until after the court had decided on the judicial review. – February 20, 2015.
